AYMERIC HAINAUX (DENT-DE-LION) / Aymeric Hainaux is a visual artist, musician and extraordinary vocal performer. Traveller, mainly hitchhiking. For his intense corporeal performances he uses a kind of beatboxing style, but ends up with sound signatures that relate much more to abstract electronic music, than to hiphop. His music comes literally from the within, with a demanding brut emergency, that is at the same time fragile and extremely attentive – voice, breath, muscle tension, movements, heartbeats and sudden outbursts of sound are celebrating the living and the immediacy of the present moment.
DIMINISHED MEN / By distorting hard boiled film and classic instrumental music through a dark, overcast lens, Diminished Men refocus their influences into something entirely unique. Their jagged, hard-charging approach evokes images of slit jugulars and accelerated heart rates, all the while swathing you in a blissful claustrophobia. Drawing elements of Link Wray, Morricone's dissonant horror scores, gritty noir and Joe Meek's sickly productions, as well as the provocative imagery of filmmakers like Wim Wenders and Jean-Pierre Melville, synthesizing them into something truly organic and original.
DIRTY SOUND SYSTEM
For the choreographer and film-maker Wim Vandekeybus, FEAR NOT is the pivotal part of the celebrations for Ultima Vezʼ 25th anniversary. While his legendary debut production What the Body Does Not Remember is being revived at the KVS, Vandekeybus, together with the AB, Vk*, Beursschouwburg and les ateliers claus, is casting a musical eye to the future. His friend Mauro Pawlowski will be assisting him in four unique dance intermezzos as part of these evening concerts.
Music runs like a thread through Wim Vandekeybusʼ oeuvre. Peter Vermeersch, Thierry De Mey, David Byrne, Marc Ribot, Charo Calvo, Eavesdropper, David Eugene Edwards, Daan, Arno, Mauro Pawlowski, Roland Van Campenhout and Elko Blijweert – they have all written music for his productions. In November 2007 several of them celebrated the 20 th anniversary of Ultima Vez when Vandekeybus transformed the AB into a real artistic Valhalla.
For FEAR NOT, all eyes are on the future. Together with Wim Vandekeybus, Brusselsʼ music venues are drawing up a wish-list of the musicians who may inspire the choreographer in the next few years. And, with Mauro as a bridge between past, present and future, everyone can expect a dazzling four days of music.
